"The womb is the holder and repository of the creative force of instinctual sexuality, the flow of vital dynamic life force, or Shakti, with love. When a woman brings together this instinctual nature with an awareness of the Divine within herself, her full creative potential becomes expressed. This sacred nature is expressed through love and magnified in her relationships with others and the natural world. " - Womb Wisdom by Padma and Anaiya Aon Prakasha

This ebook is full of the education we should have had surrounding our menstrual cycle, and the way our womb ebbs and flows. It is unfortunate that many, if not all, young girls do not get the education or understanding of their menstrual cycle from their menarche. This can have a detrimental impact on our confidence, body image, self-connection, trust, and love.
The womb is the driver of a women's creativity, thoughts, feelings, motivation, libido, diet, exercise, and many more facets of her everyday life. When we are truly aligned with her, we can clearly see that we are not supposed to be stagnant. How could we possibly be the same, feel the same, think the same, as we did the day before when our whole system is moving and transitioning from one phase to another?
The menstrual cycle has four phases or seasons. Did you know? And in each phase, or season, we have different levels of hormones, social desires, energy levels, libido, nutrient requirements and so much more!

What does this have to do with pregnancy and birth?
Well for one, you cannot achieve either without a menstrual cycle. Not yet anyway. The menstrual cycle is the very beginning of the process, and treating it with respect and care sets up the foundation for the remainder of the experience. By learning your cycle, you can also pinpoint the time when conception is probable (using charting).
Secondly, we are in a time where the menstrual cycle is shamed, disgusted, hidden, and seen as dirty. This must change. It is a naturally occurring process for a huge part of the population. It is the reason each and every one of us is here now. On an individual level, by learning your own cycle, and becoming comfortable and confident, you create a ripple effect for the other women and men in your life to give it the same respect.
Thirdly, and most importantly for this question, studies have shown that menstrual shame has a direct correlation with birthing experiences. Sharon Maloney, in 2010, found that menstruation plays a profound role in shaping women's self-perception and in/ability to birth confidently and powerfully. The fear and alienation from our body processes which begins at menarche (first period), means that many women approach birthing disconnected from their sacred, procreative power.
However, there is light at the end of the tunnel. She also found that redesignating menstruation as a spiritual phenomenon enabled women to dismantle their menstrual shame, connect with their female spirituality and give birth fearlessly and powerfully.
Donation Partner It is estimated that 2.3 billion people in the world do not have access to the sanitary and hygiene products they need for their menstrual cycle.
